Last night on Monday November 20, activists redecorated key sites of transphobic cultural production and policymaking across Naarm in observance of Trans Day of Resistance 2023. The Victorian Labor Party head-office was plastered with the phrases “TRANS LIBERATION = END COLONIAL OCCUPATION” and “AID ≠ ARMING GENOCIDE” in response to the Labor government’s lack of condemnation of the war crimes perpetuated by the Zionist settler colony of Israel. Labour brokers weapons deals to Israeli while offering piecemeal aid to Gaza. From VicPol expanding under Labor to continue murdering Blak folks, to their complicity in Gaza, we refuse to accept the pinkwashing of genocide across the globe. Channel 7 HQ was plastered with “TRANS FOLKS HATE UR ZIONIST COPAGANDA” in response to their repeated platforming of TERF dog whistles, racist street-crime conspiracies, nightly pro-pig paranoia, and coverage apologising for the genocide in Palestine as well as warcrimes committed by Australian personnel (who happen to be buddy buddy with 7 Corp chairman, Kerry Stokes). The policing of gender cannot be separated from the broader international military- and prison-industrial complex. The Israeli-backed VicPol protects Nazis on the steps of Parliament while they cage us and rape us. Finally, “UNIMELB LOVES TERFS SCABS N ZIONISTS: FUCK U” found its way onto the walls of the University of Melbourne alongside shattered windows and the phrase “TRANSPHOBIA SHATTERS LIVES”. The University continues to bankroll and platform the infamous transphobe Holly Lawford-Smith who stood on the side of Nazis at the anti-trans fascist ‘Let Women Speak’ rally earlier this year, and who supports conversion therapy for trans people. She is a known zionist and scab enabled by her employer that targets trans and Palestinian students and allies instead of the fleet of bigots and weapons companies under the University’s wing.
